What is ANDE-LM?

ANDE-LM is an initiative of Stageplaza.nl, the largest internship mediator in the Netherlands. We cooperate with partner-organisations in several countries from all over the world. Many respectable companies are registered at ANDE-LM. What we do is to match these companies offers with students who want to do an international internship.

Who do I contact if I have a question about a specific internship offer?

For questions about the internship itself we cannot give you more information than the information provided on the website. The best thing to do is to apply for the placement and put your questions in your motivation. As soon as a company accepts your application you can contact them and then ask whatever you want.

Can I directly get in contact with a company?

You can get in contact with a company from the moment they have accepted your internship application. Companies do not want applicants to contact them directly, that is one of the reasons they work through our system.

Why can't I see the companies contact details?

This is because you are either not a paid subscriber or in the case that you are a paid subscriber it is most likely because the company in question is registered with a free subscription and therefore are not allowed to show their details.

As mentioned above you are still capable or applying and vice versa companies are capable of inviting students. It is only as paid members however that you can accept and contact each other directly.

I have applied to a company. When will they let me know their decision?

It is important to note that this heavily depends on the popularity of the vacancy and/or how active the company is. We frequently check how many applications companies have, if we see that there has been no reaction from the company we contact them and encourage them to react.

The internship I want has been online for several weeks. Is it still ok to apply?

All placements on our website are still active. Some companies are looking for interns the whole year round, which means their internship offers are constantly online. If a company is not looking for interns anymore, we will automatically place it offline.

Is the company obliged to pay me for my internship?

Companies are not legally obliged to pay interns. However, if the primary working conditions of the sector you are working in mentions something about your salary, the company should stick to these rules.

If you do not get a salary, the company is still obliged to cover your expenses. In this case the money you get will not be seen as salary, so you do not need to pay tax for it and it won't affect your child benefits or study financing.

If you get a salary, you should sign an employment contract. This means you will also have to pay taxes and social premiums and that you need a health insurance.

Are there any collective working conditions especially for interns?

Most collective working conditions do not mention anything about interns. Sometimes they include recommendations about hiring interns, but these are mostly directed to the employer.

In the following sectors the collective working conditions do mention things about the duties and rights of interns, e.g. coverage expenses: Graphical, Hairdressers, Hotels, Restaurants, Café's and some constructing sectors.

Can I get fired from my internship?

Since you are not an actual employee of the company, getting fired is the wrong word to use. However, if the company is very dissatisfied with you, they can break-up the internship contract. This contract automatically expires at the end of your internship.

What's an internship contract?

Usually companies use standard contracts. You can request such a contract at info@ande-lm.com. An internship contract should always mention the following things:

  • The starting- and ending date of your internship as well as the number of days you will be working.
  • What you will learn during the internship and what you will do.
  • How the company will guide you and who will supervise you during your internship.
  • How your school will guide you and who will be your supervisor from school.
  • How the supervisor at the company is involved on your internship evaluation.
  • Who will arrange your insurances and who will pay for them.

The internship contract is important to avoid financial problems in case of accidents or illness. It also guarantees that you will actually learn things and that you will be supervised. This way you will be protected from companies using you as a "normal employee".

Can I quit the internship just like that?

You have signed a contract, so you cannot just quit. Before you take the decision to quit, talk to your supervisor at school and/or at work. If you tell them what is bothering you, they might be able to help you. Successfully finishing your internship might be essential for receiving  your diploma. If you quit your internship, not only it will delay your studies significantly as it might also become pretty difficult for you to get a new placement, if your school does not cooperate. So, before you decide to quit, think about all the consequences of your action.

Social insurance abroad

If you are going to do an international internship, you might fall under the social insurance of that country. If this is the case, carefully inform yourself about how you are insured. Health insurance is particularly important.

Usually it is difficult to arrange subsidies or grants when you are doing an internship abroad. Therefore we advise you to start arranging these things as early as possible.

Am I insured during my internship?

If you do not get a salary for your internship, you are not insured for long-term illness, health, and redundancy. If you lose the right of having a health-insurance after your internship, make sure you unregister. Otherwise you will have to pay for being illegally insured.

Interns always get a general disability insurance. This insurance makes sure that you get paid if you are not able to work for a long time or permanently due to a physical accident or disability.

What is personal mediation?

Personal mediation is a personal feature in our site where students who want to go abroad can ask for a personal assistant. The personal assistant would then be in charge of helping you throughout the whole process, including:  arranging your work placement, accommodation, administration  and more!

Where can I  find the prices for personal mediation?

Personal mediation is a very dynamic service full of choices and specifications.  The prices vary depending on your requirements and country of choice, therefore please check the following link for detailed prices:
